JUNE 2009
June is supposed to be the start of the winter months, but here on the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal we are still wearing summer clothes - although something warmer is required in the early morning and in the evenings.
The aquatic displays are set to begin with the first appearances of the whales, while The Sardine Run is due on our coastline towards the end of this month. We are hoping for a similar season to what we experienced in 2005, when our beaches were inundated with the little silver fish - much to everyone's delight. With the sardines will come the sea birds in their thousands, and the dolphins will be more high profile.
At the moment, the fishing is excellent and our beaches are filling up with fishermen looking for that favourite fish, the shad.
There is less than a month to the school holidays, so if you are thinking of booking for a holiday break, we still have accommodation available. The sea is still a very tempting average temperature of 22 degrees, so what are you waiting for?
Even though we are officially in the winter months, our roads are ablaze with tall yellow daisies, white flowering shrubs, beautiful aloes, etc. The hibiscus flowers should be putting in an appearance soon, and this will really make the south coast colourful.
Neptune's Corner self-catering cottages are ready and waiting to welcome you to a stress-free, relaxing holiday. We are situated on a hillside in Pumula - well placed with superb sea views - the best viewpoint being the pool area. Most of the cottages also have good views of the sea, and Pumula beach is approximately a 10-minute walk away. This beach is a treasure trove for shell collectors and a haven for fishermen.
With the July school holidays just around the corner, now is a good time to book your accommodation. While on the subject, our December register is now open for booking. Don't wait until the last moment, and find that no cottages are available for rental!
WE LOOK FORWARD TO WELCOMING YOU AT NEPTUNE'S CORNER
